Did you know that around 21% of the population has a non-visible disability? That is a condition, disability or impairment that is not immediately obvious from someone's initial appearance.
As part of WiBA's work to raise awareness of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion matters, we are delighted to host a panel discussion on Non-Visible Disabilities and their impact on those we work with, are friends with and care about. Through the stories of people directly affected by non-visible disabilities, we will explore how we can all provide support, understanding and true allyship – and importantly, act as good colleagues and employers.
Any disability impacts an individual's engagement with the world around them – often negatively. But where your disability is hidden so those with whom you interact are often (and certainly initially) unaware of your condition, its impact and what accommodations and understanding may be needed, life can be tough - the need to explain your position – and face challenge because 'you look ok', can add to the difficulties of managing already complex health conditions.
We will be joined by a Panel of Speakers from and involved with the Anthony Collins Solicitors Disability Committee who themselves have a range of non-visible disabilities – including Diabetes, Epilepsy and Multiple Sclerosis who will share their own personal stories, experience and top tips for being a good ally, colleague, employer and friend to those who have or may develop a hidden disability.
We hope you can join us for what promises to be an informative, insightful and practical overview of ED&I issues viewed through the lens of non-visible disability.
At £5 for members and £10 for guests, this event is a great opportunity to hear from the Panel – and raise your own queries and share your own experiences and insights too.
